Sid Dickens Memory Blocks

Who is Sid Dickens?

Born in Prince Rupert to a family of fishermen in the Pacific Coast of Canada, Sid Dickens always knew his destiny was to become an artist and this hardy coastal town in Northern British Columbia, provided a place to foster imagination in a rugged, natural world.

He studied at Vancouver’s prestigious Emily Carr University of Art and Design while working at his own studio and experimenting with unusual materials which ultimately became trademark of his distinctive style.

Internationally renowned for his historical, symbolic and sometimes gothic motifs, sensual dark tones, and sculpted tri-dimensional tiles, Sid Dickens has been adding fantasy and rebellion to each of his creations for over 20 years.  Describing himself as extremely motivated and a relentless beholder, Sid continues to take inspiration from his travels and constant research around the world. With numerous adoring fans and celebrity collectors like Sir Elton John, Liv Tyler, Dolce & Gabanna, Bono, Sting, Phil Collins and Hilary Duff, his name and unique Memory Blocks are recognized worldwide. What are Memory Blocks?

Sid Dickens are one of our favourite accessories at Endless Ideas! Handmade in Vancouver since 1995, Memory Blocks are the original collectible wall plaques.  Each 6″x 8″ block is carefully handcrafted, and has a unique meaning on the reverse.

Sid introduces new collections several times each year, and retires previous collections, making these true collectors’ items!

How can I display my Sid Dickens collection?

Sid Dickens have found a place in so many of our client’s homes and hearts. Whether it is the “Initial Tile” you received when you moved into your first home or the “Friendship Tile” you received for your last birthday, each tile will trigger a memory.

Sid Dickens look great hung on the wall in both small and large groupings.  Many avid collectors pick a prominent wall in their home and add to the grouping as their collection expands.

Just starting out your collection? The memory blocks also look great in small groupings of 3 or more.

Only have 1 block?  The memory blocks are a great accessory to add into your gallery wall or grouped on a bookshelf.

Where can I purchase Sid Dickens Tiles?

We stock over 150 memory blocks in the Endless Ideas showroom in historic Downtown Brooklin, Ontario.  Clients can also special order any tile from Sid’s active collection that we don’t have in stock. Endless Ideas is one of only a handful of Sid Dickens retailers in the GTA.

Please note that Sid Dickens Memory Blocks pricing is increasing this spring to $88 + hst.  We will honour the current price of $82+ hst on all special orders placed by May 27, 2017 and all in-store purchases until May 31, 2017.

Accessorizing a Wall Unit

Tuesday’s How-To:
Inspired by our new custom cabinet, we wanted to give you the scoop on accessorizing your bookcase or wall unit.

c2

RULE #1:
“Anything will do” is a no-no. Keep the pieces that have meaning or strike you as the most interesting and clear out the rest. Simple is best!

RULE #2:
Books are allowed. Try filling one or two shelves with your favourite novels and cookbooks, leaving the other areas clear for one or two accessories per shelf.

RULE #3:
Hide the junk! Decorative baskets, boxes and containers are great for hiding remotes, DVDs and other bits. Function is important but keeping these items neatly tucked away keeps your space looking tight all the time! (Guests sometimes show up unexpectedly..)

RULE #4:
Don’t crowd the shelves. Choose size appropriate accessories for your shelves. Large open spaces call for a large sized piece – not a bunch of smaller ones. If you’re adding a few “collections” of accessories – groups of 2’s and 3’s are best.

RULE #5:
This rule is debatable, but we like staggered shelves. While super symmetrical arrangements can be classic, they feel a bit stiff. Arrange your shelves unevenly for a relaxed look, but don’t go too crazy!
