When our clients purchased what we now call the Clean Slate home, they saw a property with incredible potential - but one that needed a complete transformation to truly reflect their lifestyle. Nestled in one of Whitbys most walkable neighbourhoods near amenities and nature trails, the location was ideal for their retirement years. What the house lacked was flow, light, and functionality.
Thatâs where the Endless Ideas team came in! Partnering with Dan at Arts Unlimited, a trusted local contracting team, Marissa and Kate reimagined every inch of the home - from the entryway to the primary suite - into a modern, open-concept design that balances style with everyday comfort. The result is a cohesive space that feels inviting, efficient, and perfect for entertaining friends and family.

Modernizing the Front Entrance & Hallway
The homeâs transformation began the moment you stepped through the door. The original entry felt cramped and closed in, with pillars and a half wall that disrupted flow and visibility. Removing these elements and creating an additional opening to the kitchen improved traffic flow, maximized sight lines, and created a spacious, modern first impression.

New Canadian hardwood flooring was installed throughout, while all doors, hardware, and trim were upgraded for a clean, modern look. The staircase was refreshed with metal pickets, custom-capped newel posts, and a refinished oak handrail to match the hickory floors. Marisa and Kate carefully selected light, open furnishings and a custom wool entry rug complete the welcoming new aesthetic.

Dining Room Transformation
What was once a cramped, separated formal living/dining room combo has been reimagined as a spacious, welcoming dining area with seating for ten or more. Kateâs strategic wall changes improved circulation and opened sightlines to the new kitchen, uniting the main floor with a
seamless sense of flow.

Marissa commissioned a custom Canadian-made dining table paired with cozy upholstered tub chairs makes this space perfect for lingering over family meals or a glass of wine with friends. Soft, full drapery and bold statement lighting anchor the room, adding both comfort and style. Large-scale artwork, highlighted by an art light, draws the eye and sets the tone for the rest of the home.

Kitchen Remodel with Enhanced Functionality
The original kitchen felt cramped and dated, with a small eating area and an awkward half wall separating it from the family room. By expanding the footprint, removing the hallway walls, and redesigning the layout, Kate and Marissa created a bright, open space that now flows seamlessly into the adjoining rooms. Custom cabinetry maximizes storage, while a cozy window seat with a bistro table provides the perfect spot for morning coffee or an intimate meal.

Generous island seating and a custom beverage bar make entertaining effortless, giving guests a place to gather while keeping the prep zone clear. Custom Canadian-made seating in leather and performance fabrics keep the space casual, comfortable, and low-maintenance. The result is a stylish, functional kitchen that has truly become the heart of this home.

Living Room Makeover with Custom Design Elements
In the original family room, a corner fireplace made furniture placement awkward and disrupted traffic flow to the backyard. Marissaâs vision to relocate the fireplace to the interior wall allowed for a dramatic new 10-foot patio door, flooding the room with natural light and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.

The new layout supports flexibility, from cozy evenings by the fire to lively gatherings with family and friends. Designed with livability in mind, Marissa selected heirloom-quality, Canadian-made upholstery and case goods-treated with stain-guard fabrics-for a perfect balance of comfort, durability, and timeless style.
Thoughtful accent lighting showcases the custom mantel and millwork, while a metallic cork wallpaper adds depth, texture, and a touch of luxury.

Creating a Retreat in the Primary Suite
In the primary bedroom and bath, our team focused on luxury and functionality. The outdated bath was completely renovated, by removing the corner tub in favour of a spacious new shower, double vanity, and a custom fitted closet. These updates ensure that the primary suite is not just a place to sleep but a true retreat within the home.

Modest Updates in the Guest Bedroom & Bath
In the guest bedroom and bath, we balanced a more modest budget with lasting impact. Since these spaces see lighter use, the focus was on quality over quantity - featuring Canadian-made furnishings, custom drapery, and thoughtfully selected accents that elevate. Soft, neutral tones and timeless finishes create an inviting atmosphere that feels refined yet effortless. The result is a pair of guest spaces that are comfortable, cohesive, and built to stand the test of time.
